Are you a successful English student?
Do you know exactly what you need to do to be successful with your English?
I have had the pleasure of teaching thousands of English students from all across the world. One thing I have noticed is that some students really take pride in their English and do everything they can to develop their skills.
In this blog post I want to share with you an insight into how some students take their English to the next level without relying to much on a teacher to help them improve.
If at the moment you feel stuck or frustrated with your progress, then perhaps from this post you can learn some tips and tricks that successful English students use to develop their skills.
Many of my students find English challenging. However, on other hand, I also have many students who seem to make huge progress with relative ease, they’re confident with their abilities and love to practice English whenever they can.
I have noticed that there are seven qualities of a successful student and if you apply these seven qualities, you too will become successful with your English.
1. They Are Curious.
Ask any successful student and they will tell you that they love learning new things. They are curious about many aspects of the language, but not only that, they are also curious about many other topics and areas of interest. They use their level of English to learn about new things that interest them in life. This is the most understated yet essential quality for getting ahead with your English. Curiosity leads to discovery and innovation. To start seeing improvement with your English start with being curious about new subjects and start absorbing information in English.
2. They Are Good Observers.
Successful students observe and learn from other successful students. They observe their qualities and apply them to their own learning and practice. In order for you to be successful start watching other successful students and watch how they approach language learning and then apply them to your own English practice.
3. They Ask Lots of Questions.
Another great quality of a successful student is that they ask lots of questions. If you are curious about something there comes a time when you have to ask questions. When you ask questions, you stretch your imagination and discover things you didn’t know. Asking questions is a natural, yet essential, part of learning. All good students know when to listen and then when to ask for further information.
4. They Have Strong Willpower.
Willpower is the energetic determination to do something. Successful students have this quality. They have the ability to face challenges and continue through difficult times. To be successful you have to believe in yourself that you’ll get answers or solutions no matter how much you are feeling When you use your willpower and keep going, you’ll see amazing results. Learning something new takes willpower and persistence.
5. They Have Self-discipline.
Learning a language requires you to work hard and put in a lot of effort. In order to sustain this for a long period of time you need to have good self-discipline. You need to make language learning a priority and constantly give it 100%. Successful students understand this and realise they can only master something with persistent effort.
6. They Take Action.
When you take action, you learn a lot more than you would just reading or listening. Successful students don’t just learn a language they use it constantly to achieve results. You have to be fearless with your English, you need to put the things you learn in to action and use it. The most effective way to learn is by doing. You can only read so many books about swimming until you simply have to jump in the pool.
7. They Avoid Distractions.
No matter how you condition yourself for English success, you will still have to remove everyday distractions to get ahead. There are so many things that demand our attention these days. Successful students avoid these distractions and continue with their learning. They channel their energies in a way that they get most from their effort. Simple things like putting away your mobile or not watching TV while studying will all help you get ahead and avoid being distracted.
